Georgia Dome demolition could be delayed…

Continued problems constructing the retractable roof at the new Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta could lead to the scheduled demolition of the Georgia Dome being delayed, according to multiple reports. The Dome, which is adjacent to the new stadium, was originally scheduled to be demolished this summer. However, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that stadium authorities are leaning toward moving the demolition to the end of the year. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted Brett Jewkes, senior vice president and chief communications officer of Atlanta Falcons parent company AMB Group, as saying “there’s no timetable set for the demolition.” The new stadium will not only serve as the home of the Atlanta Falcons, but also Atlanta United of Major League Soccer and…

(CNN)Something caught Stef Lhermitte’s eye last week as he pored over satellite images of Northwest Greenland’s Petermann Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in Greenland. “I saw a small line and thought ‘that seems new,’ ” said Lhermitte as he described the discovery he made, almost by accident, as he was testing a methodology to detect melt that requires making animated GIFs from the black and blue grainy images of Greenland captured by the European Space Agency’s Sentinel-1 satellite. Lhermitte, an assistant professor at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, checked other satellite records and determined the crack showed up in July 2016, but to his knowledge, had not been noticed by anyone.
