Authentic Masters green jacket that was…

(By: Nick Cardona) To get your hands on an authentic Masters Green Jacket you either have to be a member at Augusta National Golf Club or win the Master’s. But apparently, there was another option. You can pay nearly $140,000 at an auction. Back in 1994, someone found an authentic green jacket at a thrift store in Canada and bought it for five dollars. Augusta National confirmed that it was the real deal, but didn’t say who actually wore it. As for when the jacket was worn, most people agree that it was from the 1950’s. So, while it took Sergio close to 20 years to break his curse and get his jacket, it only took one golf fan a…

Sergio Garcia wins Masters to end…

AUGUSTA, Georgia, April 9 (Reuters) – Spain’s Sergio Garcia ended nearly two decades of major disappointment when he beat England’s Justin Rose in a playoff to win the U.S. Masters on Sunday, donning the Green Jacket on the 60th birthday of his hero, the late Seve Ballesteros. After 73 majors, four heartbreaking runner-up finishes and years of self doubt, Garcia finally delivered the long awaited title when his 10-foot birdie putt at the first extra hole dropped into the cup at the par-four 18th, triggering a massive cheer from a gallery that had been on the edge of their seats. Deadlocked after nine holes, the two friends and rivals produced an enthralling back nine showdown worthy of any Masters champion….

Fantasy Golf Podcast: Can Matt Kuchar…

Sergio Garcia gave us a great story at the Masters, but overall, it was a rough week for golf gamblers. I mean, who would ever bet on Sergio Garcia to win the Masters? Well, other than this guy. Of my five bets, none finished in the top 10 and two missed the cut. And I said if I had to stake my life on it, I’d go with Jordan Spieth, so luckily, I didn’t have to stake my life on it.Anyway, we move on, kind of like Sergio did after his performance at the WGC-Match Play. Just two weeks before he won a green jacket, he cold-topped a tee shot into the water. So never give up, kids.On this week’s…

2017 MASTERS: Playoff duel leaves both…

AUGUSTA — Memorable duels between playing partners in the closing round of a major championship don’t happen very often. After what happened in the 81st Masters, there have now been two in the past nine months. In July at the British Open at Royal Troon, Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson went toe-to-toe, with Stenson winning with an 8-under 63 while Mickelson had 65. Stenson ended up shooting 20-under-par, the lowest 72-hole score in a major championship. On Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club, Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose traded haymakers all day, especially over the final five holes of regulation, in one of the classic Masters finishes. They went to sudden death where Garcia birdied the first hole – No….

A green jacket and a white…

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Sergio Garcia pulled off one of the great upsets of the modern era Sunday at the Masters. Yes, few folks outside Garcia’s inner circle believed he could actually win a major championship, much less a green jacket, with such a formidable history of painful losses stacked against him, but the nature of this upset was even more stunning than that. Over four hours at Augusta National, Garcia won the hearts and minds of American golf fans. That’s your monumental upset. That might have been more impossible for him to win than a major. Garcia, 37, transformed before our very eyes Sunday, making the improbable journey from villain to hero with every step in his final-round odyssey. The…

Jordan Spieth disappointed, says his round…

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Jordan Spieth played the final round of the Masters precisely how he planned — which is why he couldn’t believe his run at another green jacket Sunday turned into one of the worst rounds at Augusta National in his young career. He was still shaking his head in disbelief when he walked off the course. Spieth, the 2015 Masters champ, began the day at 4 under, two strokes behind co-leaders Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia and was thrilled about his chances of winning his second Masters. Instead, Spieth opened with bogeys on two of his first three holes. It took a late run to get to 75, a score he shot here in the opening round and his largest…

AUGUSTA, Ga. — You might think golf fans show up at a tournament waiting for the 20-car pileup, waiting to feel better about their own swings, maybe their own lives, when some tormented soul relives Greg Norman’s worst nightmare on the back nine. But the Masters has always been about the career-making recovery, not the heartbreaking crash, which is why Sergio Garcia felt like he was playing his home course near the east coast of Spain. The Augusta National crowd was trying to will him home Sunday to end his biblical, 0-for-73 drought in the majors, as much as the 2004 crowd successfully tried to will home Phil Mickelson to end his 0-for-46. This was clear on the first and only…

6 near-misses that made Sergio Garcia’s…

Sergio Garcia, golf’s resident nearly-man, is a nearly man no more. He’s a major winner, no matter what. He came into the final round with a three-shot lead, which through no fault of his own, had evaporated by the 10th hole due to a string of birdies from Justin Rose. That’s when things started to go off the rails: Nervy bogeys on 10 and 11, followed by a miracle par save on 13. But to Garcia’s massive credit, he fought back in thrilling fashion. A stunning eagle at 15 forced a birdie from rose to tie the lead. Rose pulled ahead once again on 16, but after a bogey on 17, the two found themselves in a playoff — one…
