Ticks ready to draw first blood

An unwelcome sign of spring and consistently warmer weather is once again crawling around outside, typically unseen until appearing on someone’s skin, and people need to be wary.It’s time to watch out for ticks and take steps to avoid their bites, which potentially can cause health issues such as the possibility of Lyme disease.Rome Memorial Hospital’s emergency department has seen one tick bite case so far this season, and “we are aware that ticks are now active and there are many this year,” said hospital Director of Emergency and Critical Care Services Loretta Myers.“Because we are expecting another robust tick season throughout the region, people should use caution when in wooded areas or walking though tall grass,” said Myers.
